Making Random Acts of Kindness Great Again

Have you ever noticed someone struggling through their day? What sort of feeling does that produce inside you? As Christians it should make our stomach churn. We should go out of our way, daily, to help our fellow man any chance we get. What made America so great? Her people were good.  If that ever ceases to be, as the often quoted line goes, she will cease to be great.  So while we’re making things great again, let us add this important part of our national character to the list.

The Homeless Dilemma…

We have all seen the homeless person on the side of the road, frayed cardboard sign, with whatever it might say to fit their situation in life.  So of course the first thought that crosses our minds, if I give this person money they will head straight for the liquor store, or something similar.  Trust me, yes, this does happen and probably more often than not.  However as Christians, we are explicitly told several times in God’s Word, we shall not turn away those in need.  Deuteronomy 15:11 says “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.” Not only is it our duty as His children to reach out our hand to others, it feels pretty good to know we personally and positively impacted the life of another.  I also want to mention, hoping it will make us think the next time we come across this individual, the person holding that sign is most likely utterly humiliated.  With this said, your giving to them is a weight off of them, as well as a good feeling in your own heart. Simply put, it’s just the right thing to do. What they do with your gift once you bless them with it, that’s between them and the Lord should they abuse it.  So send a little Christian love their way, I promise your day will instantly become brighter.

The Bully Problem…

None of us have to look very far to come up with the name of a bully we know.  In fact if the truth were known, some of us reading this right now may have been just that bully in our past. The only way to stop this problem is by standing up to them.  Yup, just that simple. Most people who bully have probably been the victim themselves, and wanna dish out a little on the next weakest link. Seems though, every time someone stands up in the path of these creeps, they back down and move on with their failing lives.  Could it be, that the person doing the bullying is crying out for a little help themselves? It’s very possible, so why not offer an ear if they need it? Either way we slice it, this has become a huge problem in our world today.  A lot of times these bullies run in pairs, or groups.  I think it is highly likely that if one decides to make a stand, there will be a few more good hearts join in.  What needs to stop is the cheerleaders egging it on, and those who just don’t want to get involved.  Whatever the case may be, we as a whole are only as strong as our weakest links. It’s high time we stand up and protect these links, maybe figure out what drives the bully, or both, if we want the chain of humanity to remain strong.

Love Defeats Hate…

Every single time.  We as Christians, Americans, Conservatives…..Love is supposed to be ingrained in our DNA. Hold doors open for everyone you can. Carry that sweet elderly lady’s groceries to her car for her.  Be even extra kind and return her cart for her. The one you see counting out pennies at the store, to try and cover their costs, pick up the whole tab. See a veteran, shake their hand and thank them. Law enforcement officer, same thing applies. All of these things and so many more, used to be par for the course in this nation, morals 101 for us all. While this culture has changed, mostly for the worse, it is up to US to bring integrity, morals, pure kindness, back to the forefront. Other than loving the Lord with all our heart and soul, loving each other is mentioned directly after that great command. Love has a mere four letters, and is so often misused and misrepresented.  However love is the most powerful four letter word there is. Start today, commit a random act of kindness, turn hate into forgiveness, be the change we all want to see.

Forgiveness Also Key…

I will only say of this subject, other than being another of His commands, it is pretty easy to do when actually tried. To use an amazing example, of some truly awe inspiring people, look no further than Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC. These people saw the face of true evil within their own walls. While in a prayer service, these people were gunned down, tragically. It is enough to make any of us want revenge for our brothers and sister in Christ. In what is the ultimate act of Christianity, these innocent victims families reached out to the madman responsible with the words, we forgive you. My friends, if they can find forgiveness in their hearts in this saddest of situations, we can certainly forgive the small harmless issues in our lives. Life is too short for grudges, and as i said before, forgiveness feels kinda good.
